The Falmouth Harbour & Approaches DVD is a great way for the novice and experienced mariner to navigate from the Entrance to the Carrick Roads right into the inner harbour. The directions to the Falmouth harbour Commissioners Visitor's Yacht Haven is very accurate and could be very useful if you have not visited before. Lloyd Pond. Moorings Officer. Falmouth Harbour Commissioners
Video pilots are not new, but the south coast series from Harbours on Film is in a different league. Yachtmaster Cameron Snell begins each harbour guide with a look at the chart, plotting a course to the visitors' moorings or berths without using GPS. It's all reassuringly simple. He then
takes us in by boat, identifying the transit, pointing out the marks,
telling us when to turn, with frequent looks at the chart. Once we're
in, he shows us where to moor, takes us to the harbour master's office
and points out the places of interest such as the waterside pubs and
the fuel berth. Practical Boat Owner Magazine
Excellent - delivers exactly what it promises in the previews (synchronised views of video and chart positions) and more - just what I was looking for! Coming into an unfamiliar harbour, it can be difficult to work out the relationship between what is shown on a chart and what it looks like in the real world. Sometimes you haven't got enough hands on deck, and there's nothing like familiarity with a harbour to simplify things: that familiarity is precisely what these videos provide. I liked the thoughtful commentary describing details of the different pontoons, visitor moorings, fuelling barge, access hours and relevant VHF channels, key landmarks, transits, buoys, lights, and numerous other tips. Sure, I could work this out from Reed's Almanac, my charts, commentary from friends, and yachting forums and websites, but (a) this involves a lot of detective work and (b) I've done all that detective work before, and the end result is not even close to what these videos provide -- seeing all the details in a well-produced video makes our forthcoming trip (in this case, to Salcombe) much more relaxed, which is precisely why I bought it. Highly recommended. Marc E

Simon A I
have just received the iharbour and I have to say that I think
it is great. For me, I think the design is spot on. It is heavy enough
to know that you have something substantial. Not too heavy though. The display is fantastic and the controls are easy to use. I can't wait to take it on board and impress my fellow yottys.
